Lovelyz: Unforgettable 7th Mini Album Review

Lovelyz has finally made their long awaited comeback after about 1 year and 4 months! Lovelyz is back with their 7th mini album Unforgettable and title track "Obliviate" on September 1st, 2020. This mini album has two normal versions.
I preordered both versions from Ktown4u; each album comes with a preorder photocard set and an external first press poster, but for Ktown4u you need to actively select that you want these free gifts. I inquired to Ktown4u about guaranteeing receiving different poster versions (as there are 2 types) however they still said that it'd be random. On September 2nd KST I received my DHL tracking number. My albums arrived on September 7th in an oversized cardboard box wrapped in a layer of bubblewrap with an air filler.
The 2 folded posters were on the top, followed by the 2 sets of preorder photocard sets, and then the 2 albums.
Here are the 2 exterior first press posters. Like with Woollim artists' most recent releases (Golden Child's Take A Leap, Rocket Punch's Blue Punch), these exterior first press posters are now smaller with dimensions 610 mm by 440 mm.
The photocard set that came as a preorder benefit came in a clear, resealable plastic. The photocards have a glossy finish.
The backsides have the members' printed messages and autographs.
Here are the front covers of the albums, with Version A on the left and Version B on the right. These albums are really high quality, and the packaging is like hardcover books. There is also a paper strap for a nice added touch. It's hard to see here, but the circle in the center is a bit reflective on both versions.
The spines of the albums are really pretty; together, it spells "UNFORGETTABLE".
The album size is closest to Lovelyz' first album repackage.
The back has the tracklist.
I'll compare the photobooks from both versions together, with Version A either being on the top or on the left. Here you can see the backs of those straps, which are taped in place. The photobook contains 88 pages. The beginning starts with a small photo from the photoshoot.
Next is a larger photo from the scene of the photoshoot, along with the tracklist and song credits.
Following is a 2-page group photo. Version A features photos of the girls in their tassel outfits while Version B contains photos of the girls in their black outfits. About half of the photobook contains photos from these respective photoshoots.
The next 8 pages contain 1 photo per member.
The following 16 pages contain 2 pages per member. The first set is really elegant, and matches well with Lovelyz' outfits.
Next is another group photo.
The next 12 pages contain 2 photos of each member and are all in black and white.
These photos are so gorgeous, it's such a waste to have no color.
The remaining photos for both album versions are from this white outfit photoshoot. These are such gorgeous outfits and fit Lovelyz so well, so I'm really happy to see these included in both albums!
These photos are absolutely stunning. There are quite a few 2-page spreads like these.
Curtains and veils are a common theme within this shoot.
I love how artistic some of these photos are, especially with the veils.
Even though the same photoshoot is used in both album versions, no photo is the same.
Yein is killing it with her cropped hair! I am in love with that bottom photo; it's hands down my favorite photo from both albums.
Also this photo of Mijoo is just absolute perfection! I love how subtle the makeup from this shoot is (as most of their album photos are) to really showcare the girls' natural beauty.
This time Woollim placed all the song lyrics towards the back of the photobook. There is a page dedicated for each track.
There are 3 pages dedicated to the Thanks To section.
Like the beginning of the photobook, the end also includes a minimalist photo. The page after contains the album credits.
The inside of the back cover houses the CD inside a cardstock slip.
Here are the CD designs.
Each album includes 2 photocards out of 50 (!!! seriously, Woollim is upping the photocard count! From Golden Child's Take A Leap with 40 photocards to Rocket Punch's Blue Punch with 30 photocards) and 1 phone strap out of 9. Version A also includes 1 white 4cut photo sticker out of 8, while Version B includes 1 black 4cut photo sticker out of 8. The inclusions are all spread throughout the photobook. Here are my pulls from each version.
Here is a closer look at the photocards. Maknae line~^^ They all have a glossy finish. With a total of 50 photocards, there are 7 versions per member and 2 group versions.
Here are the backsides of the photocards, with printed messages and autographs.
Here are phone straps, which are woven. There are 9 versions, 1 per member and 1 "Lovelyz" one. The frontside has the album title and either the member's name or "Lovelyz" printed on it.
The backside has the title track and the corresponding member's name or "Lovelyz" printed on it. There are also 2 adhesive sections that can be used to stick onto your phone case.
The 4cut photo stickers all have a matte finish. Version A stickers are from the tassel outfits while Version B stickers are from the black outfits.
Here are the backsides of the stickers. Oddly enough there was some sticky residue in the bottom corner of my Mijoo sticker strip, and it was stuck inside the photobook. Luckily my Baby Soul one didn't have any residue.

Lovelyz have stuck with their pure and innocent concept since debut, with the most drastic concept during "WoW!" era. This time, Lovelyz are testing a completely different concept that's dark and magical, reminiscent of Harry Potter. Clothing-wise, there are still traces of Lovelyz' trademark look, but with a dark twist; this is apparent in the lacy white outfits but with black roses like in the concept trailers. The title track "Obliviate" is also a magic spell from Harry Potter, used to make others forget. This ties in well with the meaning of the song, meant to describe wanting use magic to forget a heartbreak. The choreography also includes twirling an imaginary wand, fitting well with the lyrics and concept.

This mini album contains 6 tracks:
  1. Unforgettable - the intro leading to the title, composed by Stardust. It has a really magical tone to it, matching well with the theme and title track.
  2. Obliviate - Stardust is really making themselves heard with their "Stardust whisper" at the beginning of the songs they've recently composed (think Rocket Punch's "Fireworks" and Golden Child's "Make Me Love"). Stardust composed this track along with Jerry Potter of Yummy Tone, and Sujeong participated with this team for the lyrics! Sujeong said that she had wanted to include a spell in her lyrics with the mindset of someone who wants to forget about a past love. For those wondering, "Obliviate" is pronounced as "오블리비아테" in Korean (at least this is how the spell was subbed in Harry Potter).
  3. 자각몽 - (Dream in a Dream) is a song written by danke and composed and arranged by J. Yoon. This duo also created "Floral", and separately they've created other songs for Woollim artists (danke wrote the lyrics for "Beautiful Days" while J. Yoon took part in "Hug Me", "Fondant", Golden Child's "Spring Again" and "You", and several Infinite B-side tracks). It has a really eerie feel to it, fitting well with the theme and transitioning smoothly from the spellbound title track to the slower tracks in the album.
  4. 절대, 비밀 -  (Never, Secret) is composed and arranged by DAVINK, who is a part of OnePiece which as created many of Lovelyz' past songs since debut! These last 3 tracks are definitely my favorites within the album as they really showcase the members' vocals clearly, and are all much softer.
  5. 이야기꽃 - (Memories) is created by Jung Hohyun of e.one, who also co-created "Daydream" (along with Babysoul!) and "Close to You".
  6. 걱정 인형 - (Worry Dolls) is just such a comforting and beautiful ballad. This is my favorite track on the album, and definitely one of my most favorite ballads by Lovelyz!
Overall, I admit that I was so used to Lovelyz' usual style that this concept and "Oliviate" were quite shocking to me! I really didn't think I'd like the title track, but after a few rounds, I really do love it along with the rest of the songs. The physical album is also really pretty and high quality, and all the inclusions are an added bonus.
